The Opportunity

Peel Health Campus is seeking a proactive and customer-focused Ward Clerk to join our fast-paced Emergency Department that currently provides a 24-hour emergency service to over 45,000 patients per year. Joining our multidisciplinary team of professionals your role will involve, but is not limited to;

  • Liaising with Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff as necessary, with regard to the daily administration of the ward;
  • Providing quality customer services in the coordination of the administration functions;
  • Managing incoming and outgoing calls to the ward; and
  • Performing effective admission and discharge processes to ensure appropriate bed management.

Flexibility to work across a seven-day roster will be essential to this role.

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of SHIELD Health Hub Practice Administrator (Western & Central Command). This is a full-time ongoing role and is based in Perth, Western Australia. Standard hours of duty are Monday to Friday (business hours).

The SHIELD Health Hub (Western & Central Command) covers the geographical areas of Western Australia and South Australia, including remote AFP offices in Exmouth, Geraldton, Alice Springs (Pine Gap) as well as the external territories of Cocos/Keeling Islands and Christmas Island.

This role oversees the day-to-day practice operations of a regional SHIELD Health Hub. The Hub Practice Administrator will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including clinicians and support staff, such as psychologists, nurses, welfare officers, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists and rehabilitation case managers, to provide high level client services, case management and deliver excellent customer service.

The regional Practice Administrators will be part of the AFP SHIELD team and will work in conjunction with other Regional Health Hub Practice Administrators across Australia. Suitable applicants for this role will have a passion for client care, strong organisational skills, experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and an ability to problem solve.

Your duties will include:

  • Ability to develop strong relationships and work in collaboration with regional staff to understand the operational objectives of the region
  • Work with health professionals to develop business strategies and patient services
  • Provide input in the design and action implementation of workplace procedures
  • Liaises with health professionals and other employees to ensure they have necessary support
  • Oversee daily Health Hub operations, including appointment scheduling, triage, cleaning and occupational health and safety
  • Lead a small team of administrative support staff
  • Manages the supply of medications and medical equipment
  • Manages patient records and IT systems
  • Evaluates appointment procedures and patient services and collaborates with stakeholders to improve services
  • Assists in the recruitment, induction and training of new administrative and/or clinical employees
  • Interacts with clients and provides high level client care and compassion
  • Coordinates data collection and reporting to the Central HQ
  • Collaborates with other Regional SHIELD Health Hub Administrators
  • Develop productive working relationships with regional operations
  • Work in conjunction with regional management and operational teams to ensure services are tailored to the needs of the Regional SHIELD.

Essential requirements, skills or experience:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Management/leadership skills and experience
  • Health and safety knowledge and/or background
  • Ability to use relevant software and records systems

Desirable requirements, skills or experience:

  • Qualifications in Business or Health Management is preferred
  • Previous experience as a practice manager/administrator across a multidisciplinary team (or like role)
  • Experience using Telehealth and Microsoft Office

Eligibility:

  • To be eligible you must be an Australian Citizen.
  • This position requires the successful candidate to obtain a Negative Vetting 1
